Jim Ball, age 69, former Community Services Director and active community member of Vacaville, passed away at his home on Aug. 30, 2014 from recently diagnosed pancreatic cancer. He had been a seven year survivor of esophageal cancer. His family and "granddog" little pug, Royal, were at his side. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; loving sons, Shawn and Eric and daughter-in-law, Dana; long-time best friend, Wayne Lowery and his family, Cynthia, Nicole and Amy. Jim is also survived by his former wife Dianne Pettit of Albuquerque, N.M.(1971 - 1974). Jim graduated from Galesburg High School, Galesburg, Illinois in 1964. Most recently, Jim was the founder of the Parks and Recreation Trust and The Center for Imaginative Reuse. The Trust's first major project was to be the planting of a memorial grove at Lagoon Valley Park for the 59 Solano County Vietnam soldiers who did not return. Jim was an Air Force Medic in the Vietnam conflict. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, Sept. 20, 10 a.m., at Alamo Creek Park, corner of Buck and Alamo, in Vacaville.
