GHS 50th Year Reunion
" Thanks for the Memories"
" Thanks for being there as family"
It is with deep regret that Nancy Marie Courson, and I cannot be with you all at the
50th class reunion. We have many memories from our time in Galesburg, Steak-n Shake,
Silver Streak Basketball, all our GHS teachers, and mostly all the GHS class
members we shared ' life' with. From Vietnam, through Year 2000 turn over, and
now with OBamaCare. Thanks to Facebook, we have kept up with class events,
loss of class friends like Tom Noecker, and classmates. Frank Johnson has been a God
send with his Internet talents. Who would have ever guessed that amatuer radio skills
would play so well on the Internet.! Face Book has also allowed me to follow my
classmates from Shawnee Oklahoma, SHS class of 1964. I moved to Galesburg in
February 1962. Nancy attended Lombard, was a Goldenette, and had many GHS
classmates through school from Farnham Elementary School and Lombard. My best
accomplishment at GHS was finding Nancy, courting her, and winning her hand in
marriage, June 10th, 1967. We have two daughters, two sons-in-law, and four
grandchildren as blessings. Now we are re-living school days, as we watch our
grandchildren go through school. So many good GHS memories, thanks to you all.
We shared the 2000 transition, surviving the computer calamity, and now dealing with
computer viruses and hackers, a world wide epidemic. All the brand names like
Zenith, AMOCO, etc. have left America. We call a toll-free number and talk to India or
the Phillipines. GHS memories remain, and continue many good lessons. Mr. Bowen,
Mr. Kenny, Miss Gates, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Spear, Miss Hinckly, and all our teachers
prepared us well. Classmates also helped prepare us for relationships at work, at
play, at home with family. Thank you all. Mickey Rooney passed away recently, and I
liked his quote, " Don't retire ... inspire". Retirement has one major drawback, there
is no time off. It's there every day. Especially with the blessing of grandchildren, we
are active, in good health, and enjoying life together. Nancy has started a class for
volunteer hospice work. She hopes to serve others as they transition into a new
existence, ' heaven'. We are also together operating 2 web sites for promoting home
decor and gifts. Nancy started crafts, and gift design in October 1988 with Knox
County Scenic Drive. She is still creating, designing, and serving customers. While
owning a flower shop, she formed the habit of reading' Obits' to plan her flower
orders. She still reads the Obits first. I always read the weather, then the political
cartoon first. Humor is life's best medicine. The intent of this letter is to say Thank
You, thanks for being family, we are doing well and enjoy hearing about you through
Face Book, class eMail, and the class web site. Thanks for the GHS legacy, memories,
and daily life support.
Donald E Brewer, class of 1964.
