Margo Shay-Shively receives Knox College's prestigious "Janet C. Hunter" Award.
The Janet C. Hunter prizes are intended to recognize outstanding accomplishments and service to the College.
Two prizes are awarded annually at opening Convocation in September; one prize is awarded to a member of
Knox College's hourly staff and one to a member of the salaried staff. The fund supporting the
prize was established in 2000 by contributions from friends and colleagues of Janet C Hunter, longtime
Director of Financial Aid, Dean of Enrollment and Vice President for Enrollment and Institutional
Planning at Knox College.
Margo Shay-Shively:
Knox College Lecturer in Theatre; Designer and Supervisor, Costume Shop
Margo has spent nearly a decade designing clothing for the fashion industry before coming to Knox where she design costumes for main stage productions.
She has interned with designer Oleg Cassini, as well as designed for the Chicago City Ballet, Black Hills Playhouse in South Dakota, Bonesteel Films,
Prairie Players, and Kurt Killam Production Company. She has been involved in various capacities with the Vitalist Theatre in Chicago since its conception in 1997,
and has consulted with designers from the Guthrie Theatre, Utah Shakespeare Festival, American Players Theatre, and Santa Fe Opera.
Margo is an active member
of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT), she remains on the cutting-edge of national academic excellence by presenting papers and moderating
symposiums on the relationship between curriculum standards and the liberal arts setting. Margo is fascinated by the art of textile manipulation, mask making,
the collection of vintage clothing (with the earliest piece dating from the 1850s), and is committed to providing students with design opportunities."
